Error loading game onto computer

Postby craig_brown » Sat 7 Jan 2012 08:29

Game: A Game of Thrones
Computer: Toshiba Satellite Laptop
Operating system: Windows Vista Home Premium
Processor: AMD Turion 2.1GB
RAM: 2GB

When we start loading the game, Steam setup says "Installing components...please wait".
It gets to a certain point in the load and error message "Error 1606. Could not access network location %APPDATA%\.
Options are Retry and Cancel
Retry comes up with the same error, cancel gives the same message and then exits the install

The game was purchased from a store, is there a patch we need to download to get the install completed.

Regards
Craig

Have you tried talking to steam's tech support too?
Sounds like windows might be denying access to that folder. So some other things you could try might be...
1. Try a different installation path?
2. Run the installation as an administrator?
3. Or might be DEP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_Execution_Prevention).. Don't know why that would stop you from installing aGoT though.

I'm not a moderator or much of a techie, so you might wait for another answer. Though I can't say how long that will be!

Edit: Good luck! Keep us updated. I'll help as much as I can.
