Really? I suspect that they will be my second favourite house, after Martell. And the only reason Martell comes first is because Martell was my favourite house in the CCG back when I played it.

As a somewhat competitive StarCraft player, I can tell you that scanner sweep is an incredible ability. Unlike StarCraft, all the factions here seem to be almost identical (maybe like Age of Empires II). With identical factions, in which only one faction has scanner sweep (called the raven here) I see Targaryen being quite powerful.

Of course, this assumes that scouting the opponents is actually meaningful, so I'll have to play with the game first before knowing for sure.

The raven also seems to be unique in that it is useful for both military and diplomacy. It can scout military positions, and detect stealthy units. And it can be deployed anywhere. If my understanding of this is right, then, in a game where military isn't the only way to win (as the developers have claimed) Targaryen most likely has the best unique unit.

Additionally, Targaryen ALSO has stronger knights, and a bonus with some diplomatic actions. Overall, Targaryen looks very solid.

Finally, on the off-chance that someone unfamiliar with the books or TV show picks up this game, Targaryens have the 'dragon cool factor' in the campaign. Heck, Daenerys Targaryen is also one of the fan-favourites from what I've seen of the books and TV series.

Assuming that most people are familiar with the world before getting the game, though, I see Stark being most popular simply because they are the easiest to relate to early on. Direwolves also have some cool factor, and they are a multi-player unit. Lannister should be popular as well, since many people enjoy playing 'the bad guys.'

I suspect that one of Tyrell, Martell, and Arryn will be least popular, due to their lack of representation throughout the series. Later on Tyrell has the Queen of Thornes, and there's the Knight of Flowers, so they're somewhat better represented than the others, and Martell looks to be the first faction you play in the campaign mode of this game. So, I suspect Arryn as least played house.

Ok in order of probable favouritism bear in mind i take into account the appeal for a series fan and a more strategic gamer too:

1. Stark (for the boring people who only saw the series ;), equally although they are wanting for resource and man power they can defend the neck very easily so they have a very good position on the map)
2. Targaryen (DRAGONS...DRAG-ONS)
3. Lannister (rich, good special unit, not too bad a position on the map, Jaime and Tyrion are fan favourites and Payne and the Cleganes will make them even more popular)
4. Martell (FANTASTIC position on the map as enemies will have one of , probably the nicest looking region of the map, popular in the books)
5. Baratheon (a very uncertain area on the map the Tyrell's and Martell's have a clear march to your lands and the Targaryen's are pretty close too, many felt Robert shouldn't have died and may feel they want the Baratheon's to have a longer rule)
6. Tyrell (they're rich and have some interesting characters but they're only at 6th on my list because like someone above said "who cares about the Tyrell's, equally with Dorne as enemies and typically going to be allied to Baratheon and the Dragon lords themselves they're likely to be a challenging faction to play)
7. Tully (Lannisters to the west, Stark to the north, Arryn in the north east, Targaryen in the south east...any war that you get involved in will almost certainly be waged in the riverlands primarily, however they do have some fan appeal even though they were systematically decimated at least more than the next faction on my list)
8. Arryn (strategically they have probably the very best position you won't need too many men to turn the mountain passes into choke points. It'll be hard to invade, but the characters in the books and series are repulsive and many will be put off by this and the fact the vale has been almost completely irrelevant thus far.

I was thinking that about Arryn, because, let's face it, who wants to be married to Lady Lysa?

Well, I wouldn't mind making her fly.

As for the Tully comment, let's just say I'm not a fan of fish.

Just curious, which House are you a fan of?

While not a fan of Lysa either, I think most are like me in associating her more with House Arryn. It's a shame that all we get to see of Arryn is the crazy widow/mother and her half-wit, sissy son. If we read more of the adventures of Jon Arryn we might be more prone to play them, but I think House Arryn will be the least played. I associate House Tully with the more likeable characters of Edmure, Catelyn and the Blackfish. I think Catelyn will draw in some Tully players to make it middle of the road player-wise.

As for the most played, the Starks, hands down. Probably followed by the Lannisters for those who want to play the bad guy. I will probably avoid those, because of the number of people playing them.

Personally, the ones I may play are House Tyrell (a house where I actually find all the members rather likeable and I imagine them to have a sizable population and good land), Martell (a fascinating history and it seems well protected, since we won't be seeing sea battles apparently) and Targaryen (like some said...dragons). I would play the Baratheons, but they seem ill positioned, much like poor Riverrun, but perhaps with a strong Targaryen alliance it might work out. I notice of the major houses Greyjoy is missing, which might have had some appeal, but you would have to have sea battles and that would change around a lot of the gameplay.

I will be playing House Arryn, because they left out House Mauldania and House Greyjoy.

Arryn because the Vale is impregnable, hopefully that'll mean something come battles. I could see people playing House Martell for the same reasons. The Prince's Pass could be easily defended. I also like the thief as a special unit, gimme your gold bishes! I also thought about House Tyrell, High Garden seems a nice place, they have some pretty cool perks too.

House Tully has got to be the least played. The singer? No thanks. Plus... it's the Tullys, do you really want the bumbling Lady Catelyn ruining your shot at the throne like she ruined Robbs???? You'll all end up in red weddings, mark my words.

Those who use House Stark beware, the moment your army runs out of the north it could very well lead you to lose the north. The young wolf had it happen to him, are you better than Robb you smug bums?

I can't imagine Tully and Arryn being popular houses for people to play with.
The only cool Tully is the blackfish Brynden, while the Arryn's do nothing but hiding in their mountains.
(but I do reckon/hope that Eyrie will very difficult to capture in the game just like in the books)
