A Game of Thrones – Genesis: new screenshots of Westeros!

Postby babfromfocus » Tue 12 Jul 2011 08:21

A Game of Thrones - Genesis, the new strategy game developed for PC by Cyanide, today unveiled new exclusive screenshots! These 4 images will be the perfect opportunity to discover more about the video game adaptation of the great saga “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George RR Martin: the Targaryen army during a siege, the brothers from the Night’s Watch on patrol near Castle Black or the Tyrell forces leaving Highgarden for a long campaign. In the meantime, a King has sat upon the Iron Throne and is preparing for his future wars and conquests...

The new screenshots really made me wonder how large the entire map of the game is...

Dear developers,

Just open your own artwork from your own image gallery and look at the "true" Wall http://www.agot-genesis.com/screenshots/agot-scr01_HD.jpg.

Ok, and now look at lastly added new image with the Wall.

Have you notice any difference? :)

At point when your answer will be: "None" you will get true "Whoaaaaaa!"
Untill that very moment expect rather: "...full of bricks" kind of comments

I was really hopeful when I heard about this game... but .. well... I dunno. Those screeenies make it look like the world is going to be very small, and the units look more like something a game in 2001 then 2011. Nice detail on the textures of buildings... but not very impressive overall.

Dear developers,

I'm really looking forward to this game. I am. The gameplay sounds really fantastic and seems like it captures the spirit of ASOIAF. But...well, I can get past the units looking like they're from a game several years old. That doesn't matter to me so much. But concept art is really good, and well...the wall in the image was just... disappointing. Small, and, yes, full of bricks. You can scale stuff down, you really sort of have to, but there's no scale that should make the Wall look that small. And please...please, show us gameplay. We want to see it. Everything you've said about it sounds brilliant, but without actually seeing it, we can't help but be skeptical. I want to see this game. I want to buy this game. I want to play this game. So am I'm asking...please, help me want to want all of those things. And a release date would be really nice. After all...winter is coming.

Your sincere,

THE WALL! PLEASE FIX THE WALL! When I buy this game and the Wall is made of bricks I will tie myself up in Pig Alley. I saw from an interview that the developers paid close attention to the book on the development of some characters. In the book the Wall is over 800 feet tall and is made of solid ice. Check out the images on this site: http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/The_Wall

And I have to agree with some of the other folks here. The characters I see on the gameplay map look out of date and the scale is a bit off and very Age of Empires looking. And though it's nice to have flags that show "infantry" and "calvary", wouldn't it be cooler to show the House on the flag and some other symbol to distinguish unit type?

Developers:

I too am both excited and nervous for this game. Here's a list of my questions, i assume you will be able to address them in time

First off, are we talking RTS or turn based strategy, or a mix. Being a huge fan of the books, i would personally think that an RTS just won't work if you're trying to preserve the feel of the source material. I am also hoping that this world is made as large as possible...Westeros is no small continent after all.

can special units be gifted and/or sold?...otherwise the "Raven" should be a tech as every castle has them

Will aging and lineage come into play at all...there is...ummm...a lot of turnover in the books (deaths and such)

Will the idea of wards be touched on? This after all has huge implications in the Novels

Specialty items? Valayrian Steel, Wild fire, siege equipment..

Religion?....kind of a biggy..

How will the diplomacy work?... personal traits, a family mindset and a religious mindset all rolled into one. To further this question, will other world characters appear? If so hopefully they can be ordered to perform tasks but act in an AI fashion (according to their personality traits)...aaahhh the plotting...

I guess this is just a start, but i plead that whatever is planned, is planned very thoughtfully as this is a huge undertaking and if done properly can alter the strategy genre (or create a new form) forever. If done too hastily or cheaply?.... take a look at all the LOTR strategy games...

Good luck, I'm rooting for ya'll

Thank you
